Our first film night – what did you think?

On Saturday, we held our first ever film night at the village hall, with a screening of The Wild Robot provided by Spectrum Screen Events. It was a fantastic evening, with a lovely atmosphere and plenty of treats on offer.

We sold cookies, sweets, popcorn, crisps, and drinks, while Adam from Coggeshall Catering served up delicious pizzas outside, which proved to be a big hit, with people buying them even if they didn’t come in to watch the film!

While everyone who came had a brilliant time, we were disappointed that ticket sales were low, meaning the event wasn’t profitable. That said, we were pleased to bring the school community together for something different, and we’d love to try again.

What we’d like to improve

There are a few things we think could have worked better:

  • Notice for the event: due to Spectrum Screen’s availability, we had to bring our planned date forward by six weeks, giving us less time to advertise
  • Ticket prices: we used Spectrum Screen’s standard price of £8 per ticket, but we wondered whether a family ticket option might have encouraged more attendees
  • Advertising: we put up posters and shared details on social media, but we’re unsure if this was enough for people to notice the event

We’d love your feedback

These are just some of our own reflections, but we’d really appreciate hearing from you. If you didn’t attend, we’d really like to hear why. Was it the timing? The film choice? Ticket price? Something else?

Please let us know by emailing [email protected] – your feedback will help us plan future events that more people can enjoy.

We’re keen to organise more social events, not just big fundraisers, but we need good attendance to make them worthwhile as it takes a lot of time to organise them. Thanks to everyone who came along, we hope to see even more of you next time!
